Nevada, Missouri is rich in history and is especially interesting to Civil War history buffs. Presidential order #11, signed by Abraham Lincoln, gave the Union Army the right to come into Nevada and burn it to the ground after "Bushwhackers" from Nevada ambushed and killed two Union Soldiers chased from a Nevada tavern. Nevada was rebuilt and many of the beautifully constructed homes of the town still remain and are now showcased in the Bushwhacker Victorian Homes Tour.
